We create molcajetes and accessories handcrafted in volcanic stone, wood, copper and talavera. Each piece is the result of work by master artisans from different regions of Mexico, using techniques passed down from generation to generation. Our materials come from Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Puebla, Guerrero and Morelos.
We currently offer five models in our catalog:
Prices are listed in Mexican pesos (MXN) and include VAT. For purchases from the U.S. or Canada, prices are displayed in U.S. dollars (USD). For Spain, in euros (EUR).
The square molcajete measures 8 × 8 inches (20.3 × 20.3 cm) with an approximate height of 12 cm and a weight of 6.5 kg. The round molcajete has a 9-inch diameter (22.8 cm) with a capacity of 1 liter of salsa.
Each piece is hand-carved from natural volcanic stone. Variations in porosity, tone, grain and dimensions are inherent to the artisanal process: they are not defects, they are the artisan's signature. The photographs on the site show representative examples of each model.
The volcanic stone in our molcajetes comes from Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Puebla. The 8" square molcajete with talavera is made in San Lucas Evangelista, Jalisco. The decorative talavera is from Puebla. The wood in our pieces comes from Guerrero and Morelos. When a product combines materials from different origins, we specify each one in its product page.
Yes. No Tres Piedras piece is produced with industrial machinery. Every molcajete goes through chisel carving, polishing and review by a master artisan. If it says Tres Piedras, it was made by hand.

Without visual evidence we are unable to proceed.
Once the damage is validated, you may choose between an exchange for the same model (or one of equal price available in the catalog) or a store credit coupon for the value of the product. Return shipping and re-dispatch costs are the customer's responsibility.
Monetary refunds apply only in two situations: cancellation before dispatch (while the order is in "pending shipment" status) or a validated manufacturing defect. The refund is processed through the original payment method within up to 10 business days, depending on the issuing bank.
Yes. We offer a limited 15-calendar-day warranty from the date of receipt, covering structural material failures (internal cracks, defective finish, failed material bond) that are not visible when the package is opened. If the defect is validated, you may choose a product replacement or a refund of the amount paid.
If the estimated return shipping cost exceeds 50% of the product's value, a physical return will not be required. With photographic or video evidence of the damage, we will issue a store credit coupon for the full value without the need to return the piece. Contact us before sending anything to determine whether this condition applies.

Yes. Every volcanic stone molcajete requires an initial seasoning process before first use. This process removes stone residue and prepares the surface for contact with food. The steps are as follows:
That grayish color is stone residue. When the salt retains its natural tone, the molcajete is ready to use.
For everyday cleaning, rinse the molcajete with cold water and gently scrub with a natural-bristle brush to remove residue. Avoid soap or detergent: volcanic stone is porous and can absorb chemical agents that affect the flavor of food.
After each use, let it dry completely in a ventilated area. Do not store it while still wet.
The molcajete should not be washed in a dishwasher.
Volcanic stone is a porous material that can absorb the aromas of ingredients. With proper seasoning and regular use, the stone develops its own character that enriches preparations. To reduce odors, rinse with cold water and let dry completely in a ventilated area after each use.
Pure volcanic stone molcajetes (without talavera or decorative coatings) can be used with heat. Molcajetes with talavera, paint or any other decorative material are not designed for use over direct flame, stovetop or oven, as heat can damage the decorative finishes.
Talavera from Puebla is a high-resistance ceramic material selected for functional use. It is designed to withstand contact with food, condiments and everyday handling. As with any artisanal ceramic, avoiding strong impacts extends its useful life.
Yes. Both volcanic stone and talavera are food-safe materials. The artisanal process does not involve treatment with toxic substances.
Tres Piedras wood pieces come from Morelos and Guerrero, crafted by artisans who know the material well. To preserve their natural character, we recommend cleaning them at least once a week as follows:
With this care, the wood maintains its tone, texture and that natural aroma inherent to the material. Avoid excess water and detergents. Store pieces away from direct heat sources.
We collaborate with master artisans from different regions of Mexico for volcanic stone work, and from Puebla for talavera. Their stories, techniques and communities are a central part of Tres Piedras' identity. You can meet them in the Artisans section of our website.
We work directly with the workshops, without intermediaries. We pay prices agreed upon in dialogue with each master artisan, respect the production timelines their craft requires, and do not impose industrial manufacturing rhythms. We are in the process of obtaining formal fair trade certifications that will institutionally support what we already practice every day.
Our operations are coordinated from Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico. The master artisans' workshops are located in different regions of the country.
In the About Us section of the site you will find the history of Tres Piedras, its collaborative model and the principles that guide every decision. Our blog publishes editorial content about the materials, the artisans and the cultural context of each piece.
